Follow the steps one by one using the diagram below. If you are a beginner, keep in mind that the easiest way to learn how to groom is to watch the gestures made by your groomer. Between two sessions at his home you can practice on your animal to "refresh" his haircut.

Setter grooming step by step

Brush carefully in the direction of the hair from the muzzle to the corner of the eyes, the lips, the cheeks, the chin, the attachment of the ears (inside/outside). Go down from the throat to the point of the sternum, then in an inverted V on the shoulders on each side of the crop.

Epilate with a fine trimmer the top of the skull up to the occiput. Thin from the nape to the base of the tail, down the flanks to a line from the top of the shoulder blade to the groin, and on the outside of the thigh. Use serrated scissors to trim the hairs growing behind the hock.

Epilate (thin) the front of the paws and the first phalanges of the fingers. Slim the abdomen, the contour of the sex, the inside of the upper thighs. If necessary, loosen very slightly around the anus.

Trim (#7/8) the undersides of the legs.

Cut the nails.

Carefully untangle the bangs left on the crop, chest, belly, back of the front legs, thighs, buttocks and tail, as well as those on the ears. Bathe, possibly use a detangling and nourishing balm, leave to act for a few moments. Rinse thoroughly and dry thoroughly. Fine-tune the hair removal or iron the trimmer.

Carefully connect the short areas to the long areas with serrated scissors. Comb then even out the fringes of the chest, stomach, legs, thighs, buttocks, crop, as well as the tail. Trim the well-rounded foot circumferences with curved scissors. Comb and lightly even out the bangs of the ears.
